It’s a matter of time.
It’s not a matter of ‘if the global economy will collapse,’ but ‘when’?
It’s not a matter of ‘if the world will experience world-wide pandemic catastrophes,’ but ‘when’?
It’s not a matter of ‘if a comet is going to collide with earth and destroy all living things,’ but ‘when’?
It’s not a matter of ‘if global warming will melt the polar ice caps and raise sea levels by 200 feet,’ but ‘when’?
It’s not a matter of ‘if the earth’s magnetic field will disintegrate leaving earth vulnerable to the sun’s deadly solar wind,’ but ‘when’?
It’s not a matter of ‘if massive volcanic activity will spew so much ash into the atmosphere that it will darken our planet, cool the earth’s temperatures, and cause famine and starvation,’ but ‘when’?
Within weeks I can hear it all. All of these gloomy predictions blare from such reputable TV channels as National Geographic, Discovery Channel, and The Learning Channel. With such a steady diet of “cheer,” it’s no wonder people are depressed. It’s no wonder “men’s hearts are failing them for fear of what is coming upon the earth.”
Another Event
But add to the above list one other world-wide event. “It’s not a matter of ‘if our Lord Jesus Christ is returning to earth, to bring salvation to those who await Him, to judge the living and the dead, and to bring an end to humankind’s rebellion and chaos and usher in His own reign of righteousness, justice, and world-wide peace,’ but ‘when?’”
“When is Jesus Christ coming back?” Well, if even half of the stuff National Geographic tells us is true, then Jesus Christ’s return is very close. And if our world’s future is as precarious as The Learning Channel suggests, then we’d better start living with eternity’s values in mind. As the apostle John wrote to us, “Do not love the world, nor the things in the world … for the world and all its desires are passing away, but whoever does the will of God will live forever” (1 John 2:15, 17). Again John writes, “And this is God’s command: to believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as He commanded us” (1 John 3:23).
Do you yearn for a hope that outlasts this fragile planet? That doesn’t depend upon favorable reports from the media? That gives absolute assurance of spending eternity with God in heaven? Do you want peace in your heart amidst the storms of life? Then flee into the loving and all-powerful arms of Christ. He is mighty to save.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, I flee to You as my eternal refuge, as my ultimate healer, as the only true lover of my soul. Please open Your arms to me, forgive me, and save me I pray. Amen.
