In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. (Psalm 109:4)

David needed God’s help — again. Ever felt that way? As Psalm 109 opens, we immediately find that he is in trouble. Wicked and deceitful men have spoken lies and deceit about him. They have attacked him with words. In exchange for his friendship, they have thrown accusations. We know David was a shepherd, a warrior, a poet, and a king. Now, by his own description of himself as he talks to God, we learn he is a man of prayer. David is in a tough spot for sure. But then he says, “But I am a man of prayer.” Is David bragging here? Is he acting like some holy roller who thinks he is better than anyone else? No, he’s not. This man, who killed the 9-foot giant Goliath, is in another fight. This time against vicious and wicked men. He knows he can’t handle this kind of trouble in his own strength. He calls upon God. He prays.

What about you, especially when trouble comes your way? Are you a man or woman of prayer?
