Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. (Psalm 127:1)
Years ago a soldier asked me to perform a wedding service for him. He had been married previously. When I explained the need to meet with him and his fiancee several times for premarital counseling, he opted to find someone else to perform the ceremony. His logic: why did he need marriage counseling? He had been married three times previously!
This man just didn’t get it about marriage. But he is not alone. Many couples try to make it in their own strength and intelligence. If you are married now or have been married previously, you know that marriage takes work. Areas like communication, finances, parenting, and handling conflict don’t happen automatically. As today’s verse indicates, the Lord has designed marriage to work with His help — not without it.
How about your situation? Are you married? Going to get married? If you will look to the Lord and follow His ways, your marriage can become an awesome, lifelong relationship.
