Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. (1 Corinthians 13:4)
The pace of life these days can squeeze the life out of a marriage relationship, especially in communication. Unfortunately, kindness often tends to be absent from talk between husbands and wives.
Paul is writing to Christians in Corinth. He doesn’t mince words. Earlier in the passage, he tells them that even great acts of faith or service will not compensate for a lack of love. He reminds them about what genuine love looks like. Love is kind. Ironically, at times married couples can be harsher when communicating with other than they are with anyone else.
Can you identify? I confess that I can. How do we demonstrate love to our spouse in communication? It’s not rocket science. We simply need to show kindness in our speech. Choose words that show compassion, empathy, affection, understanding, and affirmation.
Husbands, kindness in speaking to our wives is huge to them. Women are more relational than we are. Making sincere efforts to be kind when talking with your wife is a great way to show your love. Wives, the same principles apply for you.
