Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:19,20)
Professional soldiers understand the need to obey orders. Unless the orders are illegal or immoral, soldiers are expected to carry them out to the best of their ability. It’s standard operating procedure for commanders to issue the mission statement with a few specifics, but not all of them. They usually leave the “how” to their subordinates to figure out. Bottom line, however: Commanders expect followers to complete the mission.
For the Christian soldier, these verses comprise one of the most important and clearly expressed orders Jesus Christ ever issued. Notice that the Captain of our Salvation doesn’t micromanage “how” each soldier carries out His guidance. He leaves the details to us. But make no mistake. He expects every soldier in His army to participate. This is a tall order. But remember, you’re not in this alone.
Jesus Christ will be with you — ALWAYS.
