But after his disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe. (Acts 14:20)
Perseverance is an essential quality for success in the military. The mission often demands that we keep going no matter what. Victory rarely goes to the fainthearted. The Christian life can make tough demands, too.
This verse tells us about the perseverance of the apostle Paul. He had just been stoned and left for dead outside the city of Lystra. Did Paul give up? No way! After the disciples prayed for him, he got back up and went right back to face the crowd that had stoned him.
The Bible contains the stories of many other men and women of faith who stood their ground in the face of adversity. And there are many people still alive today who have overcome extreme challenges. You undoubtedly know men and women like this.
Are you facing a battle and feeling like giving up? Don’t! Your struggle is nothing you and God can’t handle. Be an overcomer. Stay in the fight. Victory will come.
