The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever—do not abandon the works of your hands. (Psalm 138:8)
King David experienced many times of trial and heartache, but he consistently chose to maintain a positive outlook. In verse 7 of Psalm 138, David candidly admits to having tough challenges: “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life.” David’s life included violence, bloodshed, betrayal, murder, domestic problems, and much more. But he refused to give in to Satan’s efforts to take him down spiritually, mentally, emotionally, or physically. Rather, he chose to trust the Lord.
What about you? Undoubtedly you’ve had trials and adversity of your own, and almost certainly to the point of feeling discouraged, depressed, and alone- or even worse. At those times, did you try to operate in your own strength? You probably discovered this approach rarely works. The Lord didn’t create us to go it alone. Follow David’s example and trust God. The Lord strengthened his faith and gave him hope. During hard times, David knew God wouldn’t abandon him, but would fulfill His purpose for David’s life. God will fulfill His purpose for your life.
