“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” (John 5:7, NIV)

Hopelessness is a very dangerous place. Take hope away and there’s not much chance for a good outcome.

One day, Jesus came upon a man who met this description. The poor guy had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.

Jesus asked the man an interesting question: “Do you want to get well?”

The man’s answer reflected his hopelessness. Though the invalid was only feet away from a pool purported to have healing power, he told Jesus “I have no one to help me into the pool…”

Yes, the man was hopeless, but why? The invalid mistakenly placed his faith in a pool with supposed magical powers. Little did the man realize that on this day, he was staring into the face of the Creator of the Universe. Jesus spoke and the invalid was instantly healed.

Is your hope tank on empty? Marriage, health, finances, career, loneliness… it doesn’t matter. When you place your trust in God, no situation is hopeless.
