He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, LORD,” he said. “Take my life.” (1 Kings 19:4)

He was a decorated war hero. During combat in Iraq he earned valorous awards along with the reputation as a future military leader at the highest levels. Upon his return to the United States, his life began to unravel.

Though outwardly he was flourishing, some PTSD issues started to take a toll on him and on his family. He tried to self-medicate and managed to hide most of his struggles. Gradually, however, those around him saw dangerous warning signs. He was on the brink of burn out. Finally, a senior officer in his chain of command directed that he seek medical help. This courageous decision probably saved the young officer’s life, his family, and his career.

Elijah prayed that he might die. The Lord used an angel to comfort the dejected prophet. In the situation above God used a senior military officer to intervene. Are you headed for burnout? Don’t try to handle the situation by yourself. Ask the God of this Universe to rescue you. He understands you and will provide the support you need.
