He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, “I am the Son of God.” (Matthew 27:43)
Stress can do damaging things to our faith, and no one is immune. During the darkest moments of life’s storms, it can seem difficult or even impossible to sense God’s presence.
All of us remember the scenes from 9/11 and the horrible images of death and destruction. Many who lost loved ones asked the question, “Where is God?” I’ve been in many situations where that question was asked- the death of a spouse or child, the loss of a fellow soldier in combat, or the death of a co-worker due to a sudden heart attack. It’s a common question, and one that was even uttered as Jesus was dying on the cross. In this case it was the religious leaders, not Jesus, who asked the question.
During these excruciatingly stressful moments, we demand action from God. We want to see him act quickly to change the situation. But we can’t let our feelings dictate our actions. At the very worst of times, the Lord says to each of us, “Don’t be afraid. I am right here with you.”
