Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. (Ephesians 6:10)
Battles, and even wars, can be won or lost based on which side is most “fit to fight.” Fitness encompasses not only physical and mental strength, but spiritual strength as well.
Some 3,000 years ago a Philistine giant named Goliath engaged a young shepherd named David in a fight to the death. Standing more than 9-feet tall and many times David’s match in physical strength, Goliath seemed to be the sure victor. But David didn’t think of the battle as his own.
David voiced his assurance this way: “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied” (1 Samuel 17:45).
Far too many wonderful military men and women are losing battles in their personal lives — divorces, financial problems, life-controlling habits — simply because they are battling in their own strength. How are you fighting the “Goliaths” in your life? Are you battling in your own strength, or are you strong in the Lord?
