You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. (Deuteronomy 5:11)
Taking the Lord’s name in vain is commonplace among the military. But just because others do it, does that mean you have to?
God’s Word is clear: We are to honor His name.
Over 30 years ago, an infantry company commander stood in front of his men. Some soldier had stolen a privately owned weapon from another soldier, but no one would step forward and provide any info. In a burst of anger, the officer cursed God’s name in front of the entire formation. The captain was a professing Christian. Decades later I recall that moment like it was yesterday. Why? I was that young officer.
While the Lord has forgiven me, it has made a lasting impression. I love the Lord and want others to love Him as well because of the way I honor Him. Perhaps you can identify. Starting now, why don’t you ask the Lord for help in doing just that. Honor His name!
