Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. (Psalm 1:1,2)

Truth is key, both at the personal and national level. Consider the fact that the U.S. has been engaged in a protracted war against terrorism. Our leaders have rightfully determined that successful counterinsurgency tactics necessitate winning the hearts and minds of the people in Iraq and Afghanistan. We must successfully communicate truth about our nation’s motivations and intent. If we can’t do this, we fail.

The Christian life likewise hinges on hearing and believing the truth. Fortunately, we have a reliable source for truth — the Bible. Notice the Psalmist’s counsel in these two verses. Don’t walk with wicked people, don’t stand with sinners, and don’t sit with mockers. You won’t find truth in any of these places. Do delight in God’s Word. It’s the truth. Meditating on it will transform your life.

You have a choice. Whose report will you choose to believe?
