Scripture: Philippians 4:4–9
Key Verse: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
The telephone rings and awakens me from slumber. It is still dark in the cabin as I hear my Dad answer the phone. He speaks to someone on the other end, and I conclude it must be his boss. My mom and sister begin to stir, and we all wonder what could be so urgent that someone would call us while are on vacation? From the one-way conversation, I realize that we will not be returning to Colorado Springs where I was to begin my senior year in the fall. While hanging up, Dad informs us that our assignment in the Springs has been changed… we were now moving to Germany! The shock settles in as I realize I’m about to attend my third high school.
The next few months were a whirlwind! As I reflect on the experience, I know the Lord was in it, and I”m so thankful for this disruption in my life. My sister and I grew closer to each other, having suffered through such a quick and challenging move. Our family joined together in prayer and leaned on the Lord more than ever. The words of Philippians 4:6 sustained us as we gave thanks for God’s guidance. My initial anxiety turned into thankfulness and appreciation for the Lord’s presence and leading during this PCS.

Have you also suffered through a similar life changing moment that seemed unfair? Did it make you bitter, or did you lean on the Lord and give God thanks for what he was doing in your life?
Practice
Try memorizing the key verse. When you face life’s challenges, remember the verse in Philippians, and give thanks to the Lord for what he has done in your life, and, more importantly, for what he will do.
Take time to write down a list of ten blessings God has given you: friends you’ve had; wonderful experiences; great places to visit, and so on. Look at it every day this week.

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me enough to see me through every situation and for not leaving me. I know that you are with me, whatever I face today or tomorrow. I place all my worries at your feet and give you thanks for all the blessings you continually give me.
