So the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates.” (1 Kings 11:11)

Have you ever witnessed a capable soldier lose rank, position or even career because of disobedience? What a waste! Examples of disobedience include soldiers of all ranks — even generals. Looking deeper into situations of this nature often reveals an attitude of rebellion toward authority. This attitude is not always noticeable on the surface, but sooner or later it comes out. As critical as obedience to military authority is, obedience to God’s authority is even more important.

Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, found this out the hard way. His rebellion and disobedience toward God cost him dearly, and many others as well. People in the military environment generally understand and respond to authority quite well. But it is not always the case in other parts of their lives.

This begs an important question: Should God have authority in all facets of our lives? What do you think?
